Porcelain Veneers Treat Cosmetic Teeth Issues
Do you have chipped or stained teeth that make you feel self-conscious when you are around others? Do you have a gap between your teeth that stops you from having a picture-perfect smile?
These are common problems that many people can identify with, and fortunately, there is a great solution that can give you a beautiful smile while fixing a range of cosmetic teeth issues. Thanks to porcelain veneers, you no longer have to feel embarrassed about your teeth.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are the most common type of dental veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of shells of porcelain that can help in recreating the natural appearance of teeth while providing resilience and strength, just like natural teeth enamel.
Porcelain is the ideal material, because it is strong and does not stain easily. It also has a color that is very similar to the natural color of the teeth.
Porcelain veneers are custom-made for each patient so as to perfectly match the contours of their teeth. Porcelain veneers change the shape, color, size, and length of your natural teeth, producing more aesthetically appealing and highly functional and reliable teeth.
Getting Porcelain Veneers
The procedure for getting porcelain veneers requires multiple trips to the dentist, usually about three. First is the consultation, where Dr. Miller will check your teeth and will determine what is wrong with them and whether porcelain veneers are the right solution for you. During this stage, X-rays of your teeth may also be taken.
During the procedure itself, your teeth must first be cleaned thoroughly, after which the dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from the surface of your teeth.
Next, Dr. Miller will take impressions or a model of your teeth and send it to a dental laboratory, where the porcelain veneers are custom-made for you based on the impressions sent. Temporary veneers may be provided to you until your real veneers are ready.
After about two to three weeks, you must visit us again. This is when Dr. Miller will place the veneers on the front surface of your teeth. Before permanently cementing the porcelain veneers, he will make sure they are the perfect fit for your teeth and make adjustments as required.
This is followed by cleaning, polishing, and etching of your teeth so that they can receive the veneers and bond to them without issues. Using a special cement, the veneers are applied to the front surface of the teeth. Then a special light beam is applied, which causes the cement to harden quickly.
